Companion Herbs, Roots, Fruits, and Nuts

Land Cress – $2.50

One of the hardest working companion herbs in the garden, land cress is edible - but its best for attracting Cabbage White Butterflies away from your tastier greens. When butterfly eggs hatch on this plant, the caterpillars don’t live for long! Frost tolerant and perennial, this trap crop is a must when growing brassicas.

Horseradish – $2.50

Growing potatoes this summer? Horseradish is a companion herb which boosts the disease resistance of potatoes when added to the bed. You can dig up the roots when you harvest your potatoes, and make your own horseradish condiments! Any root pieces left in the soil will spawn new plants next spring.

Comfrey – $2.50

A vital part of the biodynamic garden, comfrey draws nutrients up from deep in the soil and produces endless leaves throughout the warmer months. Add the leaves to compost for a boost, or use them as mulch. Pretty purple flowers to 1m attract the native blue-banded bee, which buzz-pollinates your food plants.
